RED LION Charles W. Tome, Jr., 88, entered into rest on Saturday, July 13, 2013, at 2:06 a.m. at his residence. He was the husband of Sidney G. Tome of Red Lion, with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage. Born in Red Lion to the late Charles W., Sr. and Verna P. Tome, he was a graduate of Red Lion High School and Lebanon Valley College. Charlie was a teacher for 30+ years at the Red Lion Area High School where he taught Social Studies. He was a WWII Army veteran having served as a Corporal in the Pacific Theatre. He was a lifetime member for more than 50 years at Bethany UM Church where he sang in the choir and a member of the Red Lion Lion's Club and York Symphony Chorus. Charlie was a sports enthusiast and major supporter of the Red Lion Sports (especially the girls basketball team), and a big fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Los Angeles Dodgers. In addition to his wife, Sidney, he is survived by three daughters, Lynne E. Gohn, Karen T. Woltkamp and Marsha M. Donnelly; four grandchildren, Audra, Adam, Michelle, Eric; a great-granddaughter, Ella and a great-grandchild on the way; a brother, Palmer E. Tome and one nephew. There will be a viewing Tuesday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Burg Funeral Home, Inc., 134 W. Broadway, Red Lion. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Bethany UM Church, 121 W. Broadway, Red Lion, with his pastor, Rev. Ron Doverspike, officiating. Burial will be private, in Red Lion Cemetery with flag folding ceremony by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered to: Leo Club of Red Lion Area Senior High School, in Memory of Charles W. Tome, Jr., 200 Horace Mann Ave., Red Lion, PA 17356; or to the Red Lion Area Historical Society, P.O. Box 94, Red Lion, PA 17356.
