YORK George H. Shenberger, 97, died on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, at 3:05 a.m. at Manor Care Health Services North. He was the husband of the late Arlene R. (Tomlinson) Shenberger who died on July 28, 2010. Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday at Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., 849 E. Market St., York. The service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with his pastor, the Rev. Mitchell M. Galloway, officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Rose Cemetery with full military honors given by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Shenberger was born September 14, 1915, in York and was the son of the late Harold and Mary (Rittenhouse) Shenberger. He was the owner/ operator of Shenberger's A.G. Grocery Store located at 1200 E. King St. for 30 years, a machinist at Caterpillar, a WWII U.S. Army veteran receiving the Bronze Star, and a member of Fourth UM Church. Mr. Shenberger is survived by a son, George H. "Skip" Shenberger, Jr.; four grandchildren, Troy W. Shenberger and wife Pamela, Trent E. Shenberger and wife Lisa, Heather J. Adams and husband Albert "Jr.", and Tammi J. Dawson and husband Jeff; 11 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William and Vernon Shenberger. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Courtney and three sisters, Alverta, Lavetta and an infant. Memorial contributions may be made to Fourth UM Church, 20 N. Lehman St., York, PA 17403.
