HANOVER Richard H. George Sr., 85, entered into God's eternal care Thursday, August 22, 2013, at his home with his loving family by his side. Richard was the loving husband of Janet M. (Smith) George, with whom he shared 15 years of marriage. Born August 18, 1928, in Berwick Township, he was the son of the late John W. and Ruth A. (Melhorn) George. Richard was a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene, Hanover. Richard retired from the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1991. Prior to working for the National Guard he worked at the Gladfelter Paper Company. Richard was a veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by three sons, Richard H. George, Jr., Steve L. George, and Gregory L. George, all of Spring Grove; one daughter, Cindy A. Schrum of York; his three stepsons, Butch Duncan and Ben Duncan, both of Hanover, and David Duncan of Abbottstown; his stepdaughter, Sharon Ritchie of Biglerville; three grandchildren; and his brother, Warren H. George of Hanover. He was preceded in death by his brother, Clair L. George. Following cremation, a memorial service to celebrate the life of Richard will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 27, 2013, at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 205 Fulton St., Hanover, with his pastor, the Rev. Gerald R. Dunlap, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Full military honors will be provided by the Hanover Allied Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Richard may be made to God's Meal Barrel, 413 Baltimore St., Hanover, PA 17331.
