YORK Don Cruden Baker, 84, died Wednesday, August 28, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Rebecca B. "Beppy" (Baker) Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Baker observed their 61st wedding anniversary on December 29, 2012. Don was born on July 25, 1929, in Parsons, W.Va., a son of the late Frank Elwood and Mabel (Ridgway) Baker. Mr. Baker retired as the Vice President of the former J.E. Baker Company after 35 years of service. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War having served at Ellington Air Force Base, Texas. Don was a 1949 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and attended Northeastern University. Don was a very active member of Asbury United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee, president of the Lester Johnson Sunday School Class, organ committee and advisor to the Methodist Youth Fellowship. He was a board member of Messiah College, a former member of the Lafayette Club and York Jaycees and a member of the Amateur Radio Club of York. Don was a life member of The York County Agricultural Society. His Masonic organizations include Zeredatha Lodge #451 F&AM, York Gethsemane #21 Knights Templar, York County Shrine Club, Zembo Temple, York Royal Arch Chapter #199, York Forest #30 Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and the Council, Chapter and Consistory of the Scottish Rite Lodge. He was an accomplished pilot and loved to fly. Don also was a clock smith. Most of all he enjoyed his family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Dona B. Pfunder of Marblehead, Mass, Don C. Baker, Jr. and wife Lori of York, Charles H. Baker and wife Beth of Manchester; a brother, Dr. William R. Baker of New Oxford; an aunt, Mary Lea Johnson of Emigsville; and two grandsons, Robert B. Pfunder and William C. Pfunder. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Asbury United Methodist Church 340 E. Market St., York. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Paul Stambach and Pastor Yvette B. Davis. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery with military rites provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A visitation will be 6 to 7:45 p.m. Friday at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Masonic services will be 7:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral home provided by Zeredatha Lodge #451 F&AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church 340 E. Market St., York, PA 17403.
