YORK Alma M. Koons, 84, died at Memorial Hospital on September 1, 2013. She was the wife of the late Gerald "Jake" Koons, who died January 8, 2002. Born in York on August 1, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Viola (Stilinger) Fahringer. Alma was employed by the Altland House Catering as a server for over 20 years. She was a 1947 graduate of Hallam High School, a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hallam and enjoyed spending time with her family and shopping. Alma is survived by two daughters, Carole A. Lloyd of York and Jane L. King and her husband, Daniel of Dunedin, Florida; a son, Bruce E. Koons and his wife, Cheryl of York; five grandchildren, Chris, Ed and Dana Sminkey, Melissa Falk and Denise Dubbs; six great-grandchildren; and a niece, Christine M. Broome of Hellam Township. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Reisinger. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday September 6, 2013, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 200 E. Market St., Hellam, with her pastor, the Rev. Kelly Shiflett, officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church.
