YORK Mary Jane (Ball) Smith, 78, passed away peacefully at York Hospital on Wednesday, September 4th. Mary Jane was the loving wife of the late Gerald (Jerry) H. Smith Sr. with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Born May 28, 1935, in York, Mary Jane was the daughter of the late Raymond C. and Goldie (Mundis) Ball. Mary Jane graduated from William Penn Senior High School, was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and participated in the YMCA Arthritis Swim Program. Mary Jane and Jerry enjoyed traveling, especially trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. Mary Jane is survived by six children who will cherish her memory, Gerald H. Smith Jr. and wife Karen, Raymond C. Smith and wife, Gwen, Alan M. Smith and wife Corinna, Valerie Jane Mummert, Kathy A. Blanch and husband Dennis, and Gary M. Smith and wife Deb; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of York County; and a brother, Rodney Ball of York. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Mary Jane's life with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. and a memorial service at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday September 8, 2013, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 415 N. West St., York, PA 17404. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary Jane's name to the , Central Pennsylvania Office, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 201 Harrisburg, PA 17110.
