NEW FREEDOM Elizabeth Marie "Liz" Barber died Tuesday, September 24, 2013, at Accolades in New Freedom. A viewing will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 28, 2013, at the mortuary. Interment is in New Freedom Cemetery. Pastor Rodney Stamper will officiate. Mrs. Barber was born August 12, 1932, in Welch, W. Va., the daughter of the late James E. and Alphia H. (Mitchem) Fitzgerald. She was the wife of the late James D. Barber. Liz worked for the former ACME Market in New Freedom and Safeway Market in Shrewsbury, where she retired after 25 years of service. While living in West Virginia, Liz was an active member of Little Vine Baptist Church of Welch. She enjoyed spending time at the New Freedom Senior Center, bowling, and bingo. Liz is survived by four children, Kathie Peak and her husband Dale, Jr. of White Hall, Md., Evelyn VanDyke and her husband Robert of Brogue, James Barber of Dallastown, and Julia Rodgers and her husband William of Jacobus; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Marlene Goodson and Brenda Craft, both of Spry; a dear friend, Linda Orwig of Red Lion; and a very special friend, Charles Poole of New Freedom. She was preceded in death by one sister, Elsie Catron; and two sons-in-law, Charles Reymeyer, Jr., and William Templeton. Memorial contributions may be made to Accolades, 101 S.
