HELLAM TWP. Richard Karl Louis "Dick" Bubans, 83, of Hellam Township, formerly of Johnstown, died at 9 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013, at his residence. He was the husband of Betty Louise (Thomas) Bubans. Born April 17, 1930, in Johnstown, a son of the late Rudolph O. and Anna (Zilke) Bubans, he retired in 1985 from Bethlehem Steel in Johnstown after 36 years of employment. He was a member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church, and the Hellam Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 7045. He also served in many capacities at his home church, Grace Lutheran Church in Johnstown, including council member, Sunday school teacher and basketball coach prior to the move to York in 2009. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Korean Conflict, stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina and Cuba. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Mr. Bubans is survived by two daughters, Beverly Wallerius and her husband Ed of York, and Bethany Meuret and her husband Kevin, of Saint Louis, Mo.; a son, Keith Bubans and his wife Donna of York; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Johanna Weaver of Chambersburg; a brother-in-law, Lester Thomas and his wife Alice Becker of Dover; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Elizabeth Meuret. Funeral services are scheduled for 12 noon Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York, with his Pastor, The Rev. Brian A. McClinton officiating. Viewing will be 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
