YORK NEW SALEM William A. Bollinger, 80, died unexpectedly on Saturday, October 12, 2013, at York Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Helen D. (Wherley) Bollinger; together they shared over 60 years of marriage. Bill was born in Hanover on January 26, 1933, the son of the late Efrim Bollinger and the late Alta (Wildasin) Bollinger. He graduated from East Berlin High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War and was honorably discharged. He worked as a truck driver for over 40 years and retired from Consolidated Freightways after 36 years of employment. He was a member of the 3 million mile club, an award given to those without an accident while driving over 3 million miles. He was an avid Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles Fan. He was also a member of Windy Hill Senior Center in Spring Grove as well as a member of numerous clubs throughout York County. In addition to his wife Helen; he is survived by his sons, William A. Bollinger Jr. and wife, Lynn of Windsor, Bradley E. Bollinger and wife, Sue of West York, Craig A. Bollingerand wife, Tracy of Hanover; and seven grandchildren Ashley, Levi, Bobby, Jenny, Jessica, Suzanne and Madison. He is also survived by his brother, Edwin Bollinger and wife, Linda of Longwood Fla. He was predeceased by his brother, David Bollinger. A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday at 12 p.m. at Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC, 175 N Main St., Spring Grove with Rev. Brenda J. Feree officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at Susquehanna Memorial Gardens in York with military honors provided by York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held on Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Windy Hill Senior Center, 1472 Roths Church Rd.
