COLUMBIA Melvin M. "Lefty" King, 71, of 319 S. 3rd St. Columbia, died at his residence on Saturday following an illness of several years. He was the husband of Catherine Brady King. On June 14, 2013, they celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary. Born in New Freedom, he was the son of the late Paul and Anna King. Melvin retired from the Teamsters Union Local #430. He proudly served his country as a U.S. Army Veteran of the Viet Nam War. Melvin was of the Catholic Faith. He was a member of the Red Rose Memorial Post #2435 VFW and the AMVETS Post #153 both in Columbia. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles and Ravens Fan. Melvin loved woodworking and spending time with his family. Surviving besides his wife are two sons, Gerald husband of Bonita King of Marietta, and Gregory King husband of Angela Danner of Columbia; and a daughter, Annette King at home. Also surviving are five grandchildren and a brother, Paul husband of Beverly King of New Freedom. He was predeceased by a step-mother: Dorothy King and two brothers, Richard and Phillip King. Funeral Services for Melvin will be held from the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc. 519 Walnut St. Columbia, on Friday at 11 a.m. (VIEWING: 10 to 11 a.m.) with the Very Rev. Fr. Kenneth Lawrence officiating. Interment will be in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery. A Viewing will also be held on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Clyde W. Kraft Funeral Home, Inc.
