Rev.  Dale R. Groff Obituary
YORK The Rev. Dale R. Groff, 82, of York, and formerly of Auburn, Schuylkill County, passed away on October 25 at home. Pastor Groff was born July 3, 1931, in Lancaster, the son of the late Jay C. and Clara F. (Kline) Groff. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he received a B.A. from Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, in l957; his Bachelor of Divinity degree from the Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1960, and was ordained by the Potomac Synod of Maryland in June of that year. In 1974 he was awarded the Master of Divinity degree by the Lancaster Theological Seminary. A United Church of Christ pastor of the Evangelical and Reformed tradition, he served first at Christ UCC, Cavetown, Md. (1960-1965). He then served for 23 years (1965-1988) at Rosedale UCC, Laureldale, Reading. Having completed his active ministry at St Paul's UCC, Mahanoy City (1989-1996), he retired as Pastor Emeritus at age 65. Following retirement, he served as an interim and supply minister through age 78. He was a deeply devoted family man who enjoyed the outdoors, camping, traveling, and was an avid reader. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia (Smith) Groff of York; daughter, Eileen Wingard and husband Scott of York; daughter, Lois Yarnall and husband Robert of E. Stroudsburg; and son, Derek of Reading; grandchildren, Lauren and Barrett Wingard, Brandon, Cody, Brett and Tyler Yarnall, and Jacob Groff; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, The Rev. Elvin J. Groff. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Service at St Paul's UCC, 1235 Summer Hill Road, Auburn, PA 17922 on Sunday, November 10, at 2 p.m. The family will welcome visitors from 1 to 2 p.m. and to a meal following the service. Following cremation, interment will be at the convenience of the family.
