YORK Richard A. "Dick" Krout, 84, died on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at his home. He was the husband of Janet M. (Corney) Krout. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage. Born in West York, on May 14, 1929, he was the son of the late William R. and Miriam E. (Elsesser) Krout. He was a 1947 graduate of West York High School and was a self-employed contractor. Dick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a combat engineer. He was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, the Shiloh American Legion Post 791, and the 13th Ward Political Club. Dick was a former member of the York County Builders Association, the West York Exchange Club, and at the church he served as a trustee, on the administrative board, and as Sunday school secretary. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Lori Ann Jones and her husband, Scott of Princess Ann, Md., and Beth Corinne Smith of Frederick, Md.; two grandsons, Nathan and Steven Smith of Frederick; two sisters-in-law, Samiko Krout and Beverly Kling; a brother-in-law, George Corney and his wife, Joan; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Strickler and Joyce Grumbine; and a brother, William C. Krout. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 25, 2013, at 12 noon, with the Rev Dr. D. Guy Carrigan officiating, at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St., York. A visitation will be held Monday from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Greenmount Cemetery with military rites conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
