TANEYTOWN, MD Joseph E. "Joe" Lambert, 74, died Friday, November 22, 2013, at his residence. Born March 26, 1939, in Hampstead, Md., to the late Paul P. and Emma I. (Hale) Lambert, he was the husband of Helen (Yarema) Lambert, his wife of 52 years. Joe was a veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served in the United States Army as a Helicopter Mechanic and received the Army Commendation Medal for leadership. He worked for Shelter Systems in Westminster, Md., where he was an essential employee for 31 years. Joe owned and operated the former Colonial Distributing Company in Westminster, Md. With his family, he also owned and operated the Maryland Line Inn in Maryland Line, Md. Prior to his deployment to Vietnam, he worked as a machinist for AAI Corporation in Cockeysville, Md. Joe's memberships included the American Legion Post 120 in Taneytown, Md., VFW Post 7012 in New Freedom, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2226 Littlestown, and he was a former Rotarian. He was also President of the Baltimore County, Md., Restaurant and Tavern Association from 1973 -1974 and President of the former Parkton, Md., Democratic Club. He enjoyed cooking and military history. Joe will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend to many. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Laura Lee Lambert and her husband, Paul S. Hirsch of Santa Barbara, Calif,; grandson, Milo Lambert Hirsch; and brother, James J. Lambert and his wife, Mary L. of Shrewsbury. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Franklin Lambert, and his sister, Cheryl K. Lambert. A viewing will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 26, 2013, at the mortuary. Interment will be in Mt. Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Freeland, Md., with military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Carroll Hospice, 292 Stoner Ave., Westminster, MD 21157; or to Mother Seton School, 100 Creamery Road, Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
