HANOVER Patricia A. Smith, 72, entered into God's eternal care Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Hershey Medical Center. She was the wife of Mark S. Smith, Jr., who died March 10, 1992. Born October 8, 1941, in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of John and Mary (Altoff) Schuchart. Pat was employed as the office manager for Smith Bros., Inc. for over 20 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Basilica, Hanover, where she enjoyed decorating the church for Christmas. She spent many years as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 82. She enjoyed traveling, puzzles, crossword puzzles, her flower garden and those wonderful times spent at the mountain cabin. Pat especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. Surviving are five children, Dwain M. Smith and his wife Susan of Hanover, Yvonne M. Wilhide and her husband Dennis of Spring Grove, Allen J. Smith and his wife Lisa of Hanover, Mark S. Smith III and his wife Carol of Hanover, and Christopher J. Smith and his wife Christina of Fairfield; her son-in-law, Thomas Goff and his wife Julie of Hanover; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Corrine Smith of Hanover. She was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth M. Smith; a daughter, Diane Goff; and four siblings, John Altoff, Earl Schuchart, Rosie Barnhart and Virginia Schuchart. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Basilica in Hanover, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas H. Smith, the Rev. James E. Lease and the Rev. Lawrence J. McNeil concelebrating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends and relatives will be received Friday 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Avenue, McSherrystown, with prayers at 8 p.m. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Timothy Foreman, Dwain Smith, Matthew Smith, Blake Smith, Thomas Goff, Tyler Smith, Zachary Smith and Mark S. Smith IV. In lieu of flowers, contributions in remembrance of Pat may be made to Sacred Heart Basilica, 30 Basilica Drive, Hanover, PA 17331; or VNA/Hospice, 440 N. Madison St., Hanover, PA 17331.
