COLUMBIA Peter John "Pete' Adams, Jr., 94, formerly of Connellsville, passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 7, 2014, in the Susquehanna Valley Nursing & Rehab Center, Columbia. He was born January 19, 1919, in United, the son of the late Peter J. and Mary V. Shergi Adams, Sr. Pete was a longtime resident of Connellsville. He was a graduate of Waynesburg College, where he received his degree in finance. Pete was also involved in real estate and earned his Real Estate License from the state of Pennsylvania. Prior to his retirement, Pete served as Vice President of the former Second National Bank in Connellsville and was also a member of the American Institute of Banking. He was Veteran of WWII, having served in the U.S. Army with the 28th Infantry Division as a medic in the European Theatre. He was a prisoner-of-war and a recipient of the Purple Heart. Pete was a member of the Connellsville American Legion #301 and Connellsville VFW #21. Pete was very civic minded and loved his hometown of Connellsville. He belonged to various clubs and boards including: the Connellsville Elks #503, Connellsville Lions Club, Rotary Club of Connellsville, the Connellsville Area School Board, and the Connellsville Housing Authority. Pete was also a member of the former St. Emory's R.C. Church in Connellsville where he served as an altar boy. Pete will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by his loving daughters, Linda L. Jeanmenne and husband, Robert of Port Matilda, Pa., and Victoria G. Weinstein and husband, Stanley of York; his grandchildren, Dr. Robert L. Jeanmenne and wife, Rebecca, and Dr. Patrick A. Jeanmenne and wife, Karen all of Port Matilda, Shawna L. Neiman and husband, Brian of Lancaster, and Laura G. Lauer and husband, Bryan of York; his nine great-grandchildren; his fiancee, Louise A. Martin of Washington, Pa.; his sisters, Helen Strickler of South Connellsville and Irene Homonai of Connellsville; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Pete was predeceased by his wife, Patricia G. Dunkle Adams, on January 2, 1976; and two sisters, Mary V. Sanner and Elizabeth Santorella. Family and friends will be received Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., the hour of a Funeral Prayer Service in the Brooks Funeral Home, Inc., 111 E. Green St., Connellsville, (724-628-1430), with the Rev. Robert Lubic as celebrant. Military services will be conducted at the funeral home by the Connellsville VFW and American Legion and Trotter American Legion Honor Guard.
