YORK George T. Dryhurst, 81, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning, January 23, 2014, at his residence in York. There with him was his loving wife of 54 years, Beverly A. Dryhurst. He was born June 16, 1932, in Jersey City, N.J., to the late George W. and Antionette (Piserchia) Dryhurst. He grew up in Plainfield, N.J., traveled to the Far East with the Navy, and lived in Laurel, Md., Westminster, Md., and York. He graduated from North Plainfield High and later in life attended Rutgers University. He was a proud patriot and a war veteran. He served as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and then worked for the National Security Agency for 35 years during the cold war. He enjoyed playing golf, taking his family camping, boating, and fishing, and loved to take long rides in the country. A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the John W. Keffer Funeral Homes, Inc., 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, with a funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Warner officiating. Burial with full military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. In addition to his wife, Beverly, George is survived by three sons, George M. Dryhurst and wife, Lisa of Owings, Md., Ron T. Dryhurst of Parker, Colo., and John E. Dryhurst of Rapid City, S.D.; as well as four grandchildren, Katie, Christopher, Sean, and Sarah.
