DALLASTOWN Gary J. Gerber, 79, passed away peacefully at Manor Care - Dallastown on Saturday, March 8, 2014. He was the beloved husband Dolores "Dolly" Ann (Porambo) Gerber, his wife of 60 years. Mr. Gerber was born on September 13, 1934, in Palmerton, and was the son of the late Francis Sylvester and Louise Matilda (Derby) Gerber. Gary was a Junior High School teacher for the Red Lion School District for 30 years. He received his Bachelor's degree from Franklin and Marshall College and his Master's degree from Western Maryland College. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed basketball, football, and baseball, and was a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies. He was a junior high basketball coach and was a baseball coach for the Windsor youth program. In his spare time he enjoyed playing basketball, swimming, fishing, and playing bingo, but most of all he enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren and his beloved dog, Daisy. In addition to his wife, Gary is survived by his son, Gary John Gerber, Jr. and his wife, Cristine (Burger) of Dallastown; his three daughters, JoAnn Chronister and her husband, Steven of Windsor, Mary Ann Chronister and her husband, Todd of York, and Louise Dee Warner and her husband, Thomas of Brogue; and nine grandchildren, Stephanie Hoffman, Angelique Burkey, Scott Chronister, Rachel Chronister, Trent Gerber, Carolyn Satko, Jennifer Stetler, Heather Chronister, and Megan Warner. He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Ellie Jo Chronister. He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Gerber. Following cremation a memorial service to honor Gary's life will be held at noon on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Inc., 104 W. Main St., Dallastown, with Pastor Richard Starr officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the start of the memorial service.
