Cyril B. Smith Jr. Obituary
DOVER Cyril B. "Zeke" Smith, Jr., 80, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at York Hospital, surrounded by his family. Born September 12, 1933, he was the son of the late Catherine (Groft) and Cyril B. Smith, Sr. After graduating from York Catholic High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the Korean War and received a purple heart after being wounded in active duty in 1952. Cyril worked for Mason Dixon for many years and retired from Consolidated Freight. He was involved in a multitude of organizations including First Capitol Marine Corps League, York County Veterans Honor Guard, Knights of Columbus, Boy Scouts, Toys for Tots, EYC Football, and the York Catholic Alumni Association. He was inducted in to the York Catholic Hall of Fame in 2002. Cyril gave over 23 gallons of blood to Central PA blood bank. Cyril was a member of St. Rose of Lima and had a very strong Catholic faith which he proudly shared with this family. Cyril had a compassionate heart, always helping those in need. He believed that "God gives ordinary people extraordinary jobs to perform for Him." He was a loving father and enjoyed spending time with his ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, whom he lovingly referred to as "his little people". "Pap" as he was referred to by many, was never at a loss for words. He was always willing to share one of his many stories with anyone who was willing to listen. He always ended his conversations with "Love you, and God bless you." Cyril is survived by four children, Paul Smith, Steven Smith, Cathy Hohenadel, and Patty Smith; and a sister, Mary Landis. He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Smith; a sister, Doris Baltozer; a daughter, Connie Michels; and a granddaughter, Shelby Lentz. A private viewing will be held by the family. Interment will be at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. The John W. Keffer Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc.,, 902 Mt. Rose Ave., York, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Toys for Tots.
