HALLAM Donald L. Hughes, 66, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Manor Care Kingston Court. He was the husband of Dian (Dissinger) Hughes. They observed their 42nd wedding anniversary on October 1, 2013. Donald was born in York on March 6, 1948, a son of the late Elmer T. and Dorothy (Grissinger) Hughes. He retired as a maintenance machinist from Harley Davidson and was a former employee of General Electric. Donald served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a 1966 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and a former treasurer of Machinist Local Lodge #243. In addition to his wife of 42 years, Donald is survived by a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Wert of East Prospect; a son, Jeffrey K. Hughes of York; six grandchildren, Jeffrey Lee, Autumn, twins Gianna and Tessa Hughes, Aryeanna and Ayden Wert; a brother, Robert Hughes of York; one niece; and two nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mirian Miller. A funeral service will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service 1111 E. Market St., York. Military rites will be provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard immediately following the service at the funeral home. A viewing will be 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
