David Litrenta Obituary

SHREWSBURY TWP. David Edward Litrenta, M.D., 78, passed away at his home in Shrewsbury surrounded by family on November 15, 2014, around 2 p.m. He was born May 4, 1936, in Baltimore, Md., and was the only son of the late Catherine and Ernest Litrenta. David is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Shirley Frances Litrenta (Spleidt); and seven children; Phyllis, Deborah, Daniel, Lindsay, Susan, Marc, and Kevin. David also leaves behind 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. David fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a physician when he graduated from Washington College and University of Maryland Medical School. He went on to practice for over 53 years. His love of practicing medicine was second only to his love for his wife and family. After medical school graduation, David trained at York Hospital and entered family medicine, with a practice in the York area. He later transitioned into specializing in preventative and occupational medicine. Most recently, prior to his retirement, he was Medical Director of Concentra Urgent Care in Harrisburg. David's many accomplishments include being a fellow in the American Academy of Family Practice and American College of Preventive, Occupational & Environmental Medicine, President of the University of Maryland Medical Alumni Association 1996-1997, served on the Board of Visitors and Governors at Washington College from 2000-2005, and he served 10 years in the US Army Reserve. In addition to his undertakings, David's interests and hobbies included numismatics, collecting old and rare books, photography, history, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and colleagues. Viewings will be held at the John W. Keffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. 902 Mt. Rose Ave, York, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m and Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. with a viewing Saturday 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. A Mass of Christian will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday at St. Patrick Church 231 S. Beaver St. in York. Revs. Keith Carroll and Joshua R. Brommer as celebrants. Burial will be in Holy Saviour Cemetery with a Flag Folding presentation by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in David's name to the University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, 620 West Lexington St. Baltimore, MD 21201 for Heart Failure Research under the direction of Dr. Stephen Gottlieb.

So sad to hear of Dr. Litrenta's passing. He was our doctor many years when he practiced in Dover area. Delivered my first child, took care of all three of my children, and came to my home the night my mother, Bernice A Walker, passed away. What wonderful doctor and great human being he was. Truly cared for his patients. May God be with his wife and entire family. He will be missed.

To The Litrenta Family,

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Litrenta's passing. It was my indeed my good fortune to have worked for Dr. Litrenta as a new graduate from Physician Assistant School. Over the many years that have transpired I've come to appreciate how each Physician I worked with influenced my career as a clinician and as a professional. I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Dr. Litrenta and learn the many nuances it takes to become an effective clinician and influence the lives of the patients we see on a daily basis. I like to think that I take away something very special from each position I accept. What I think I learned the most from your Dr. Litrenta was the importance of how to "sell" a treatment plan to a patient and how important it was to explain in words that the patient can understand how and why their treatment plan is going to make them feel better.

I am so sorry for your loss and the medical community has lost a very good clinician and friend. The medical communities ranks have truly been diminished by this loss

Respectfully,

Kevin J. Ziegler PA-C

The Wiseman family sends our deepest heartfelt sympathy to Shirley, our dear son-in-law, Jesse and the entire family on the passing of our friend, Dave. He was an effervescent, engaging individual who could instantly make you feel welcomed and comfortable around him, and who together with his wonderful wife, embraced our daughter and always made our family feel welcomed and a part of their own. Dave's intelligence and interest in so much always sparked lively and entertaining conversation and we'll be ever thankful for the many terrific memories he chronicled and passed along to us all through his love and skill for photography. We'll remember the smiles and the laughter and will greatly miss him. But our loss is heaven's gain as it now has a new resident physician, historian and photo-journalist . With all our love, Tammy and Bill

I grew up next door to the house that Dr. David's parents lived in. As a very young child in the early to mid 60's I was often sick and remember Dr. David coming over to see me. He had such a gentle manner and truly eased all my fears as well as my illness. I remember his son Danny who used to throw candy into our yard. I've often wondered what became of the Litentas. They were a truly wonderful bunch of folks. God bless you all. Dr. David was a Godsend and I know his absence will be profound. Prayers and hugs to the family. So sorry for your loss.

Dear family of DEL,
I enjoyed the priledge of working with the good doctor at YIMC, Concentra from 1992-1995. I had some great times with him and his staff. He was a great mentor always willing to teach. He had a funny sense of humor. He always hired PAs of which I was one of them. He did a great job caring for family med and occupational patients. He had to put up with my sense of humor. I will miss all your jelly beans lined up on your desk and everything in place. You had a tremendous impact on many people. You left a great legacy. My deep sympathy to other family members I worked with, Deborah, Lindsey, Mark and Shirley.??
