MATTHEWS, N.C. — Sarah Etta Monroe Harris, 80, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015 at Novant Health Medical Center in Matthews. Funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 6525 Old Monroe Road, Indian Trail. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will take place at 2 p.m. Thursday at Lakeland Memorial Park. Good Shepherd Funeral Home of Indian Trail is serving the Harris family. Hickman, Deborah - Rockingham  
ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Ms. Deborah Hickman, 63, of Rockingham, passed on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2015 at FirstHealth Hospice House of Moore County. Hill, Jesse - Hamlet  
HAMLET, N.C. — Mr. William Jesse Hill, age 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2015. Mr. Hill was born Sept. 11, 1949 in Parkton, North Carolina, a son of Doris Willougby Hill and the late C.W. Hill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving two Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star, a Combat Infantry Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Hill was a member of the VFW, the Purple Heart Association, the American Rifle Association and the N.C. Sheriffs' Association. He was a proud supporter of the St. Labre Indian School and the St. Joseph's Indian School. Jesse was an avid NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt fan. Mr. Hill also enjoyed watching westerns and fishing. He never met a stranger and was always ready to strike up a conversation. In addition to his father, Jesse was also preceded in death by his beloved canine family member, "Venus." Surviving are wife, Jeanie H. Hill of the home; children, Alexis Jade Hill of the home, Caren Holland of Laurel Hill, Chip Hall of Hamlet, Monica (Ken) Dailey of Tacoma, Washington, Chris (Amy) Hill of Creedmor, North Carolina, Jennifer Hill of Hamlet and Matt (Staci) Hill of Fayetteville; mother, Doris Hill of Red Springs, North Carolina; brother, Raymond C. (Wanda) Hill of Raleigh; sisters, Judy (Charlie) Allison of Rockfish, North Carolina and Marylee Wolfe of Tampa, Florida; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his beloved canine family, Abby, Rose, Rebel, Precious and Star. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Westfield Creek Baptist Church in Cheraw, South Carolina. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church. Hughes, Myra - Martinsville  
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Myra Joyce Bridges Hughes, of Martinsville, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 27, 2015 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born in Richmond County to Jack Lee Bridges and Joyce Snead Bridges. Her father preceded her in death. Myra worked at VF as a customer service manager for 14 years. She was previously employed with Tultex of Martinsville. She is survived by her mother; daughters, Nikki Turner Mahmutovic and her husband Damir of Indian Trail, North Carolina, and Blaire Hughes of Martinsville; son, Blake Hughes of Martinsville; sister, Robin Wood of Rockingham; nephew, Robbie Stebbins of Huntersville, North Carolina; niece, Brooke Dawkins and her husband P.T. of Rockingham; great-nieces, Madison and Presley Dawkins; and great-nephew, Nolan Dawkins. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3140 Chaparral Drive, Suite 106, Roanoke, VA 24018 or to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA 22311.
