John Calvin Williams, 57, formerly of Rockingham, N.C., went to rest on Saturday, March 22, 2014 at his residence in Winston-Salem.
John was born Jan. 13, 1957 in Richmond County, to the late Mary Elizabeth and the J.C. Horne. John was a friendly and affectionate friend to everyone. He was a member of the Temple COGIC in Rockingham and later moved to Winston-Salem where he became a member of Resurrection Christian Fellowship.
John was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Brenda, Everett, Thomas, Sue and Marcus Williams.
Surviving are three brothers, Elder Phillip Williams of Atlanta, Ga., David Williams of Fayetteville and Rev. Tony Horne of Rockingham; five sisters, Rachael (Alex) Leonard of Rockingham, Clara Williams of Tacoma, Wash., Barbara Lewis of Rutgers, N.J., Vickie Brown of Illinois and Arletha (Sheldon) Poole of Laurinburg; foster brother, Bryant Slatten of Atlanta; two special nephews, Henry Siprena Williams of Rockingham and Stanley Williams of Marion, N.C.; two sister-in-laws, Gloria Williams of Goldsboro and Elizabeth Williams of Rockingham; aunt, Marthal Gilchrist of Rockingham; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
The family will see friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at Nelson Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at Rachael and Alex Leonard's home.
Home-going service will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Leak Street Community Center in Rockingham with Elder Phillip Williams eulogizing.
