HAMLET, N.C. — Mr. Larry Edward Hartgrove, 68, of Hamlet passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Sandhills Regional Medical Center.
He was born July 6, 1945, in Richmond County, son of the late Virginia Davis Hartgrove and Edward "Ed" N. Hartgrove.
Larry attended First Baptist Church in Hamlet and had 34 years of service with CSX Railroad. He was a member and past Master of Hamlet Masonic Lodge 532. Larry was a member of the Richmond County Arts Council and was a master woodworker who enjoyed sharing his woodwork with the people he met through life.
Larry is survived by his wife, Susan Atkinson Hartgrove; children, Paige Hartgrove Bailey of Rockingham, David Johnson and wife Heather of Hamlet and Michael Johnson and wife Lorri of Lexington, S.C.; six grandchildren, Adam and Mason Bailey, Cooper and Lilly Johnson and Alex and Caroline Johnson; sisters, Becky Simmons and husband Ott of Rockingham and Trisha Lunceford of Hamlet; and a brother, Herb Hartgrove and wife Debbie of Dunn.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday at Watson-King Funeral Home in Hamlet.
A service to celebrate Larry's life will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at First Baptist Church in Hamlet with the Rev. Randy Bishop officiating with Masonic rites to follow the service. Interment will conclude at Richmond Memorial Park.
