Ludie Mae Benton, 92, of 108 Seaboard Street in Rockingham, N.C., passed away on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at her home.
She was born in Conway, S.C. on Nov. 15, 1921, to the late Pink and Annie Brewer Todd.
She was a spinner with Springs Mills in Laurel Hill. She enjoyed sewing and fishing and was a devoted longtime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons, Robert L. Benton, James O. Benton and John Larry Benton all of Rockingham; a daughter, Jeanette McKenzie, of Rockingham; two daughter-in-laws, Judith Benton and Janice Benton, both of Rockingham and son-in-law, Larry McKenzie, of Rockingham and brothers, William "Bill" Todd, of Shallotte and Harris Todd, of Longs, S.C. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 30 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Lanie Benton.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home.
A service to celebrate her life will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Pine Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Wayne Tuttle and the Rev. Don Kivett will officiate.
The burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park in Rockingham.
