ROCKINGHAM, N.C. — Stan Hatcher, of Rockingham, died on June 28, 2018 after a period of declining health. Stan was born in Richmond County, one of eight children of the late Ellis and Sallie Mae Hatcher. He was 92.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty. He is survived by his three children: Douglas Hatcher (Paul Wakeford) of Durham; Joy O'Neal of Carolina Beach; and Brent Hatcher (Larry Siracusa) of San Francisco, California. He is also survived by brothers Ellis Hatcher Jr. (Beth) of Matthews, Dalton Hatcher (Becky) of Rockingham, and sister, Nina Moore of Rockingham.
A lifelong resident of Richmond County, Stan began learning the construction industry as a young man. As he increased his knowledge and skill, he started a construction company with Robert Snead. The company was called Snead & Hatcher Construction Company. Eventually, he decided to go solo and his company was known as Stan Hatcher Construction Company. His brother, Dalton, later joined him in the business. The company was general contractor for many buildings in Richmond County and adjacent counties. Stan was a devout Christian and contributed to the growth and development of a number of churches in Richmond County.
The family sincerely thanks Louise Lucas, Brenda Bostick, Jimmy Melton, Vicki Covington, Linda Newton, and Elaine Oliver for the devoted care they provided our father during his illness.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 1 at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham. The service will be followed by visitation with family and friends. Entombment will be at Richmond County Memorial Park in Rockingham.
