Leonard L. Patrick, 91, of Rockingham, N.C., passed away Saturday, April 5, 2014.

He was born on November 6, 1922 in Jasper, Ala. to the late Joseph and Minnie Patrick.

Leonard served the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during World War II. He retired from the railroad in 1985 and attended Cameronian Presbyterian Church in Rockingham. Leonard and his wife, Sarah, enjoyed traveling across the country in their motor home with friends during their retirement. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing golf, camping, fishing and backpacking. His greatest joy was found in spending time with his family.

Mr. Patrick was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Sarah Hooks Patrick; four brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Linda Patrick of Statesville, N.C.; his daughter and son-in-law, Chris and David O'Neal of Mount Airy, N.C.; three granddaughters, Heather O'Neal and husband Jamie of Asheville, N.C., Ashley Moser and husband Jared of Mount Airy, N.C. and Laura Elliott of Hamlet, N.C.; six great-grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Wilson of The Villages, Fla.; brother, Raymond Patrick of Fort Smith, Ark.; and many nieces and nephews, all very dear to him.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Cameronian Presbyterian Church, Rockingham, with the Rev. Wyatt Coley officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral service beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Cameronian Presbyterian Church.
