Mr. Dewey Wayne Grooms, 65, of 870 N.C. 381, Hamlet, N.C., died Saturday, June 7, 2014 at Sandhills Regional Medical Center, Hamlet.

He was born Sept. 3, 1948, in Robeson County, son of Tillman Dewey Grooms and Eva Gause Grooms.

He was a member of Nebo Wesleyan Church, a veteran of the U.S. Army who fought in the Vietnam War and previously worked at Clark Equipment.

Mr. Grooms was preceded in death by his father, Tillman Grooms; and a sister, Elaine Grooms.

Survivors include his mother, Eva Gause Grooms of Hamlet; sons, Michael Wayne Grooms of Hamlet and Dwayne Quick and wife Dana of Hamlet; brother, Randy Grooms of Hamlet; sisters, Shelby Dawkins of Hamlet, Marilyn Allen of Hamlet and Carolyn Gatch of Georgia; five grandchildren, Callie Rhea Grooms, Jessica Quick, Ryan Quick, Ally Quick and Chaise Millen; and great-granddaughter, Annabelle Millen.

Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Harrington Funeral Home.

At other times, the family will meet at the home of his mother, Eva, at 688 N.C. 381, Hamlet.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Harrington Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Collins officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park Mausoleum.
