Charles Howard "Chuck" Hayward

Charles "Chuck" Howard Hayward, 86 years old, passed peacefully on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. Chuck is survived by his daughter, Pam Lind (Aaron) of Renton, WA; son, Mark Hayward (Linda Abbey); grandson, Alex (Erin) of Austin, TX. Chuck was preceded in death by his beloved wife and best friend, Guila June Hayward. They were married 59 years, and shared many fun adventures around the United States. Chuck and Guila lost two sons, Jeffrey, who died in infancy, and John, who died in adolescence.

Chuck Hayward was born in Marquette, Michigan to Floyd and Edna Hayward. While in the U.S. Navy, Chuck met the love of his life, Guila, at the Navy Enlisted Men's Club in Charleston, SC. Chuck saw Guila across the room and asked her to dance. While dancing, he told her that he was going to marry her. It must have been fate, because they were married in Charleston on August 2, 1952.

Chuck's naval career led them around the country where they gathered countless friends. After Chuck's retirement from the U.S. Navy, they moved to the Key Peninsula in Washington State. Both Guila and Chuck went on to successful careers in real estate.

After retiring again, they traveled throughout the United States in their RV. Eventually, they settled in the Foothills area of Yuma, AZ, where they were surrounded by a remarkable group of loving neighbors.

The family expresses its sincerest gratitude to Copper Hills Assisted Living and Hospice Compassus of Yuma, AZ, who provided outstanding and loving care to Chuck in the final months of his life. The family asks that any donations be made to the Assistance League of Yuma, Arizona
