Gary was born December 7, 1937 in Mt. Clemens, MI and died October 9, 2013 peacefully in his home surrounded by his children after a long illness. Gary was devoted husband and father.
Gary met Carol Grace Beyer in Mt. Clemens where on June 25, 1960 the couple married and spent the next 53 years together. Carol Grace passed away one day prior to Gary, one day short day apart. Today they are in paradise where they will be together forever. Gary and Carol raised three children, Brian (Holly) Carter, Elgin, Wendy (Mary Beth) Carter-Siddons, McHenry, and Kevin J Carter, Rockford. Gary has an impressive career with General Motors
in Warren, MI where he worked as a metallurgist at GM's research and development facility. In 1977 Gary relocated to Illinois to work as Training Manager for AFS (American Foundry Society). In 1985 Gary accepted a position a s Trainer & Safety Manager for the Department of Energy (EE&G) in Blackford, ID. While in Illinois Gary was an active support of the Crystal Lake Heraldry Guard and a very active member and instructor for the American Red Cross Water Safety Programs.
Gary loved all things adventurous, the mountains, the outdoors, great food and restaurants. He was an accomplished wood carver, photographer, gardener and cook. His greatest love of all however was his wife Carol of 53 years and his children and family.
There will be a memorial service at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry, Saturday, October 12, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be a memorial service in Mt. Clemens Michigan that will be scheduled over the next few weeks.
