James "Jim" Stapleton passed away from a long battle with cancer on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at his sister's home in Yuma. He was born in Akron, Ohio on January 10, 1950. Jim attended Crane and Yuma Union High School. After serving in the U.S. Army he returned home and eventually moved to the Phoenix area. There he worked in construction, Arizona State Hospital, and last few years as an Apartment Manager to Southern Manor Apartments in Tempe. In past years, Jim loved to fish and camp with friends and his dog. Jim was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church (WELS) in Tempe where he enjoyed the fellowship of the members. He was also a member of the 709th Military Police Battalion Association.
Jim is survived by his sisters, Shirley Dean of Yuma and Linda Montgomery (Charles) of Queen Creek; niece, Sandra Dean of Buckeye; nephew, James Dean (Anne) of Seymour-Johnson AFB, NC and C.J. Montgomery (Cassie) of Queen Creek; uncle, Mack Stapleton of Atwater, OH; aunt, Wanda Valenti of Tallmadge, OH; plus many cousins living in various states. Jim was preceded in death by his father, William "Bill" Stapleton; mother, Elizabeth Stapleton; sister, Imogene Stapleton.
A Viewing will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2014 and Services at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014 at Johnson Mortuary, 1415 S. 1st Avenue, Yuma. Internment will follow services at Desert Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Hospice of Yuma.
