Louie E. Kehl

Louie Ernest Kehl went to be with The Lord on March 19, 2014. He was born in Austin, Colorado on April 12, 1924.

Louie was a 1942 graduate of Yuma Union High School. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Sangamon CVE 26 and was honorably discharged in 1944 with the rank of Coxswain 2nd class. After leaving the Navy, Louie returned to Yuma where he bought a ranch and became a skilled and successful farmer. He was a member of Oasis Church, the VFW, County Planning and Zoning, Board of Braceros, Yuma County Water Users (29 years), Farm Home Administration, Arizona Cotton Growers Association and he was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Escort Carrier Sailors and Airman Association (ECSSA). He also coached Little League, Babe Ruth and Connie Mack Baseball for over 14 years. Louie also bowled in commercial and church bowling leagues; he also enjoyed golfing, hunting and traveling. Louie was a faithful supporter of 4H and Yuma County Fair Auctions.

Louie is survived by the "Love of his life", his wife of 69 years Helen Yarwood Kehl; their children, Ernie (Mary) Kehl of Dallas, Texas, Janet (Bob) Evans of Lewisville, Texas and David (Betsy) Kehl of Tillamook, Oregon; eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, nephews and nieces.

Louie was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, beloved friends and shipmates.

A visitation will be held at Johnson Mortuary on Thursday, March 27, 2014 from 9am to 10am, followed by a memorial service at 10am and internment at Desert Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers please send donations to hospice of Yuma.
