On July 11, 2014 the lord called home one of his beloved angels. Elvera Rose Millard passed away at Yuma Regional Medical Center. She was born July 3, 1948 in Yuma, AZ. |
She resided on the Quechan Reservation and attended San Pasqual High School. While there she also played clarinet with the Quechan Indian Band until the age of 16, of which she then moved to Alpine, CA and later married Eddie La Chappa. During her years there she held many jobs such as Nurses Aide for the Alpine Convalescent Home, Fire Fighter for the Sycuan Tribe, a cook and Driver for the Kumeyaay Center. She married her second husband Ernest Brown and lived in Escondido, CA then became a home maker. She later moved back to the Quechan Reservation and resided there until her untimely passing.
Elvera was a very loving woman with a heart of gold. She was always helping out other in their time of need. She was an avid reader and movie watcher and loved going to the Casinos. She also enjoyed listening to her music and she loved Johnny Cash of all the things she loved the most spending time with her grandsons. They were her heart and Joy in life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Esther Bender; father, Arthur Millard Sr; step-father, Eddie Bender; brother, Arthur Millard Jr; maternal grandparents, Mae Townsend and Gus Paul Townsend; paternal grandparents, Harry and May Estepaquarque Millard.
She is survived by her daughter, Ernesta Amador; grandsons, Isadore Clark and Angel Amador; sisters, Laverne Amador, Lorna Amador; brother, Gilman Amador; cousins Priscilla Prettybird, Tessie Escalante and Perdius Escalante, all of Winterhaven, CA; nieces Elvera Amador, Desiree Velasquez and Hemshreh-Enye Amador, all of Winterhaven, CA Jessica Amador and Delilah Joles of Alpine, CA; nephews, Conan Nierenhausen, Eddie Amador, Gilman Amador Jr., all of Winterhaven, CA., Jason Amador of Austin TX; great nieces, Layla Velasquez, Jocelyn Velasquez; great nephews, Damian Cota and Jayden Sisomphou all of Winterhaven, CA.
Pallbeaers will be Conana Nierenhausen, Manfred Scott, Chano Escalante, Morales Escalante, Michael Escalante, Michael Twist, Jason Amador, Timothy Williams, Reginald Antone, Christopher Hill, Phillip Parra Jr., Jason Owens, Harlen Prettybird, Theron Prettybird and Wade Nierenhausen.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gilman Amador Sr., Larry Hammond Jr., Larry Laurenzana, Randy Allen, Rudy Allen, Wallace Antone, Eddie Amador and Keeny Escalanti Sr.
Wake will be held on Friday, July 18, 2014 at Yuma Mortuary at 2:00pm. Church service will follow at Ft. Yuma Methodist Church beginning at 3:30pm. Tribal Rites will immediately following church service. Cremation will be Saturday, July 19, 2014.
