Jacob Escalanti passed away on September 24, 2013 in Sells AZ. He was born April 15, 1927 in Yuma, AZ. He was of the Quechan and Tohono O'odham Tribes.

Jacob pastored at the Assembly of God Church in Winterhaven, Ca for 10 years also in the Los Angeles area. He moved to Sells AZ and started Jakes Concrete and Escalanti Engineering Ent. Also started the 1st native owned construction company and school where he was an instructor and director.
He was also presented and recognized as an honorary professor at the University of Michigan. In 1974 he was elected Chairman of the Tohono O'odhan Nation capitol of Sells, AZ.
Jacob is survived by his sons, Ben Escalanti, Randy Carrillo; daughters, Sheila Espino, Blanche Montoya, Sandy Gutierrez, Connie Derma, Serena Escalanti; brother, David Escalanti; sisters, Esther Standifer and Carol Escalanti; 19 grandchildren and 23 great grand children. He is preceded in death by wife, Julia; sons, Ronnie and Nathaniel Escalanti; brother, Austin Escalanti; sisters, Helen Pasqual , Viola Escalanti and Pearl Escalanti.
Services will be held on September 30, 2013. Tribal Chambers in Sells, AZ at 11AM to 2PM. Then onto San Xavier Reservation for wake services and final resting place. Burial will be on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at 5AM.
