Joan Meiser Obituary
Joan Meiser
August 29, 1927 – November 8, 2013
Joan Meiser – Bob Meiser's cherished wife of 64-yrs, adored mother of Jane Penny (husband, Bill Penny) and John Meiser (wife, Gloria Hays), and beloved grandmother to Katlan Penny (husband, Taha Fatemi) and Leigh Penny-passed away Friday, November 8, 2013. Born to Joe and Clara Easton in Marysville, OH, Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Ruth Ellen, and her brother, Larry. Joan is survived by her husband, her daughter, her son and their families; also, her sister Eileen Root (and husband Jerry) and her brother John (and wife Lois).
A 1949 graduate of Ohio State University (go Buckeyes!), Joan started teaching grammar school in Wilcox, AZ. In 1960 she, Bob, Jane and John relocated to Yuma where Joan flourished in her 23-year teaching career at Crane School, retiring in 1983. Over the last 30-years, Joan, a highly respected, treasured friend and colleague, committed her time and energy to several groups dear to her heart: the Assistance League of Yuma, PEO (a philanthropic organization championing women's education) and two quilting groups. An avid, multi-media artist, she produced award-winning quilts, hand-painted china, needlepoint and other fine-made crafts. Her tireless energy, creative talents and generous volunteer spirit were unmatched and will be sorely missed.
Please join the family in a celebration of Joan Meiser's expansive and impactful life. Services will be held Friday, November 15, at 10AM, Johnson's Mortuary, 1415 First Avenue, Yuma. Pastor, Tweedy Sombrero, officiating. Honorary pallbearers: John Easton, Larry Easton, Jerry Root, John Nickum, Harley Berryman, Phil Townsend and Bob Esmeir. In lieu of flowers, we respectfully ask you to contribute to the Assistance League of Yuma, or the Hospice of Yuma.
