Anita Smith Obituary

Anita Kay Smith, 74, passed away on May 9, 2011, at home in the loving embrace of her family. Kay was born on January 12, 1937, in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, where she resided with her parents Robert and Violet Eichelberger until April 1957 when she joined her high school sweetheart Harold Smith stationed in El Paso, Texas. On April 27, 2011 they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary.
Harold and Kay lived in southern California before moving to Yuma, Arizona in 1978. Kay had many successful careers throughout her life, and while living in Yuma she worked for the Bureau of Reclamation, owned an office building and secretarial service, and worked in real estate. At the end of their careers, Harold and Kay visited many places while operating cross-country bicycle tours.
Retired for the last 20 years, Kay treasured her time at home in Yuma with her family, friends and neighbors, and also the time spent traveling with Harold. They traveled the country in their motor home during the summer months, and also enjoyed European travel including riverboat cruises.
Kay was a loving and supportive wife, mom, grandma, sister, friend and neighbor, and will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. She was an excellent cook and prepared many wonderful meals for her family. She collected angels, liked to shop, read cookbooks, dance, play games, wear pink, and enjoyed her red wine. She was very involved in her grandchildren's lives and loved to attend their activities.
Kay is survived by her devoted husband, Harold; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Mark Kuettel of Yuma; daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Paul Oberlin of Gilbert, Arizona; grandson, Jesse Kuettel and his wife Jamie of Phoenix; granddaughter, Megan Kuettel of San Diego, California; grandson, Cameron Oberlin and granddaughter, Emily Oberlin, both of Gilbert, Arizona. Also surviving is her sister, Donna Henney (Ken) of Boalsburg, Pennsylvania, and her brother Ronald Eichelberger (Bonnie) of Alexandria, Pennsylvania.
Services will be held at Gila Mountain United Methodist Church on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, at 2pm. Donations may be made in Kay's name to Hospice of Yuma.

I am sorry for the loss of a beautiful lady. She was always cheerful, funny and compassionate. Working with her during the time she was at BOR was a joy. Seeing her out in town always made my day. The memories I have of her will be cherished in my heart for a life time. I truly know she is at peace and is seeing the face of our Lord. She will be truly missed, but remains always in the heart. My prayers will be with all of the family as you go through this time of sorrow. Lord please enfold your arms around this family and grant them peace, comfort and strength. Lyola Walls

Dear Harold, My wife and I moved to Yuma in 1988 and shortly after had the pleasure of meeting/knowing you and Kay. Lilli, my wife of 26 years, died last October, so I know the loss/grief you are experiencing. Over the years we never saw Kay without a Smile on her beautiful face and a warm, wonderful personality. Kay will be missed by more people than you realize. Richard Akerman
