Donald "Don" Harris Kukuk passed away peacefully at this home in Reno, Nevada from Parkinson's disease on April 28, 2013 at the age of 87. He was born to Alma and Charles Kukuk on August 2, 1925 in Huron, South Dakota. Don graduated from Huron High School, and then joined the U.S. Navy-V5 program as a seaman aviator in 1944. He spent 2 years at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota training to become a naval officer. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in Vallejo, California in 1946.

He married his High School Sweetheart, Verla Cantonwine on December 23, 1945. In July 1949, he enrolled in the engineering School at South Dakota State College in Brookings, South Dakota. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BSCE degree in Civil engineering in 1951. In 1952, he and his wife moved to San Diego, California, where Don was employed by Boyle Engineering until his retirement in 1991. In 1994 they moved to Reno, Nevada, where he made Reno his final home. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren grow up, and he attended all of their sports activities. He was a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, San Diego Padres, San Diego Chargers, and most of all, the North Valley Panthers, where his granddaughter played soccer and basketball, and the Reno Huskies, where both of his grandsons played football, basketball and baseball. His other interests included: investments, bowling, golf and Bridge.
Don is survived by his loving wife Verla of 67 years, his daughter Lynn, son Greg (Linda), his granddaughter Hailee (Lynn), his two grandsons Ryan and Grant (Greg, Linda) , his brother Keith (Ruth), and Howard (Becky) of Yuma, Arizona. He was preceded in death by his parents Alma and Charles Kukuk, his sister, Alice Landon of Spearfish, South Dakota, his brothers, Lester Kukuk of Huron, South Dakota and Bill Kukuk (Doris) of San Diego, California.
