Elbert Deese Obituary

Elbert Elisha Deese, age 79, passed away at his Yuma, AZ home on April 2, 2011. He was born in Cramerton, NC on August 19, 1931.
Elbert was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, L. Louise Stone; granddaughter Tiffany C. Deese; his parents, Henry E. Deese and Mary M. Brewer; brothers Leroy Gulledge; and Carl Deese and sisters Odessa Wallace, Ethel Mae Deese, Kathleen Self and Nellie Brown.
Elbert is survived by his wife, Barbara Roy Deese of Yuma, AZ; daughter, Cathy Deese of Stockton ,MO; son, Everette (Maribeth) Deese of Brownsville, TX; daughter, Lynn (Robb) Taylor of Orem, UT; sons, Tom and Roy (Dea) Olsen both of San Diego, CA; son Joel (Cathy) Deese of Tacoma, WA; daughter, Bobbie (Sam) Harper of Everson, WA; son, LeGrand (Lisa) Deese of Birmingham, AL; daughter, Rachel (Tim) Sorenson of Olympia, WA; brothers, Frank and Wade (Nancy) Deese both of AZ; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; 30 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Elbert was a retired nuclear welder from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, WA. His welding skills were of the highest quality in both function and art; his work ethic second to none.
Elbert enjoyed restoring vintage automobiles, particularly his '56 Chevy Pick-up and his '72 Monte Carlo. He had a passion for the music of George Strait and was often teased about his "groupie" status. He was a dedicated Mariners fan and enjoyed attending spring training. Elbert and Barbara have a "second family" of four Shih Tzu dogs and four rescued cats.
Elbert had a love for travel and especially for meeting people on the road. He was known as a friend too many and a stranger to few. His smile will remain in the minds and hearts of all who love him. Above all Elbert had a deep and profound testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a love for his Savior, Jesus Christ.
A memorial will be held in Yuma, AZ in the fall. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to "Hospice of Yuma" and suggest that donations to them can be made in Elbert's name. Phone: 928.343.2222 Toll Free: 877.343.2226 http://www.hospiceofyuma.com/
