Frances Morris Obituary
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Herbert L. Morris. She was born February 19, 1920 in Durham, NC. She grew up in Lenoir, NC, attended Woman's College of UNC, and graduated with a Bachelors of Music from Western Kentucky University in 1943. She met and married Herbert Morris on April19, 1945. She had one daughter, Marian Costanza, and one grandson, Christian Costanza.
Frances was an original Homesteader on the mesa, moving to Yuma in 1949. She also worked several jobs until retirement. Music was an important part of Frances' life. She played in a symphony during World War II, taught high school band and flute for several years, and sung and/or directed Church Choir for approximately 60 years. Frances was a founding and active member of Trinity Methodist Church. She directed and sang in choir and played in the Cindy Klein bell group.
Frances was a board member of Arizona Western College for 28 years, retiring in January 2005. She was a strong proponent of education and supported the college in every possible way she could. In recognition of her many contributions, she has an endowed Chair named in her honor.
Frances will be remembered for her contributions to AWC, her church, her music, and her love of life and family. She will be greatly missed by her family and all who knew her.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Trinity United Methodist Church.
