Sharon Thorson Obituary

Sharon Lee Thorson, 72, passed away on March 29, 2011, from complications of cancer. She was born June 3, 1938, in Spokane, Washington. Sharon was the daughter of Ola (Sivils) and Larry Thorson.

Sharon spent her childhood in the Spokane area and western Montana. Sharon graduated from high school in Superior, Montana, in 1956, and went on to graduate from Kinman College of Business in Spokane. She worked at Aerojet for 10 years in Sacramento, California, before becoming employed by the California State Assembly and State Senate. Her work included interacting with members of the legislature, their staff, lobbyists, constituents and the general public, which she did with grace and humor. She retired in 2001, after 29 years of service. Sharon moved to Yuma that year to be the caregiver for her aging Mother.

She loved reading, cooking, drawing, studying the Bible, shopping at thrift shops, walking and playing with her cat, Dumpling. She was selfless with her time and money when it came to helping others, which was her greatest joy. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Sharon is survived by several cousins and many friends. She wished to be cremated and grave side services will be held at a later date.

I worked across the hall from Sharon at the State Capitol and we became fast friends. She was that way, warm and friendly. I haven't seen her since she left Sacramento but we always kept in touch. She was my rock, always there when I needed a shoulder yet she never ever complained about what she was going through. Whenever I felt sorry for myself due to aches and pains, I thought about her and it put things in perspective for me. She cared more about how I was doing than about her own problems. I'm glad she's in heaven now and is no longer suffering. Rest in peace my friend. I will miss you.

Sharon and I worked at Aerojet for several years. When Aerojet lost their government contract, when went our separate ways, We met again in downtown Sacramento and rekindled our friendship. We both retired in 2000 and I helped her move toYuma to take care of her Mother. I got a phone last night from her friend Connie. Much appreciated.
Sharon was the kind of friend that always stayed in touch and patient when I was late in calling her. I will miss Sharon.

Sharon and my husband went through chemo together and the three of us looked forward to chatting while going through this life changing experience. We had lunch about six weeks ago and I thought she wasn't doing well but her spirits were high. I had been trying to get in touch with her for the last 10 days and now I know why I couldn't. I will miss her....
