Charlotte Sue Michener, 92, known to many as Grammer Sue, died Wednesday morning, May 21, 2014 at her home in Westmorland, CA surrounded by her children and loved ones. Born on Christmas Day, 1921, in Ardmore, OK; One of 6 children. Charlotte Sue Sherrard was raised by her Grandmother and Grandpap in Dibble, OK. After eloping as a 16 year-old bride, Sue and her new husband Euell Michener moved to the Yuma Valley in 1938 during the height of the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl. Settling first in Somerton, and later on the Yuma Mesa, she raised four children and remained in the Yuma area until 1997 when she relocated to Westmorland to live with her daughter Linda Hamby.

She was known for her faith, her gardening, and above all her love of family and friends. Grammer Sue was a presence not only to her own family scattered around the country and the world; she touched many others in both the Yuma and Imperial Valley who thought of Grammer Sue as their grandmother too.
Grammer Sue was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Anna Lou Vance (Jim) of Yuma in 1981; and her husband of 57 years, Euell Michener of Somerton in 1996. She is survived by her daughters, Linda Hamby (Joel) and Anita Griffith (John) of Westmorland; and son, Steve Michener (Cathy) of Prescott, AZ; 13 grandchildren, Jay, Jon and Jeff Vance of Yuma, Joey Hamby of Tempe, Jenifer Halkola of Bakersfield, CA, Matthew Hamby currently stationed at USAG-Vicenza, Italy, Andrew Hamby of Williams, AZ, Luke Hamby of Westmorland, Marisue Smith of Tempe, Joanna Golina of Samara, Russia, Sarah Taitano of Chula Vista, CA, Elainea Trone of Sacramento, CA, and David Michener of South Lake Tahoe, CA. She also leaves 28 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, May 26, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the House of Prayer in Westmorland, Joel Hamby officiating. Burial will be Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. at Desert Lawn Memorial Cemetery, 1415 S. 1st Avenue, Yuma.
