A man among men leads by example and works hard from sun up until sundown. Morris Jones was as strong as an ox and loved to tell stories about growing up on the Island. Mr. James; barber shop will never be the same.

Morris Jones, 78, died on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at YRMC.

Morris was born in Somerton, Arizona on July 18, 1930. He was a Corporal in the US Army and was a retired farmer. Morris attended The Island School House, a one room school where Sadie B. Davis was the teacher. Morris had a special talent for farming, having a natural eye for land leveling.

Morris is survived by his children, Blanche (Gary) Lett of Chandler, Arizona, Norma (Donald) Nelson of Yuma, Morris (Jean) Jones of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Beverly Cade of Yuma, Gregory (Eifel) Russell of Lancaster, California and Marilyn Dobbins of Mesa, Arizona; his sisters, Barbara (Willie) Flemister of Los Angeles, California and Mary Ann Williams of Buckeye, Arizona; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Allen Jones and Pearl Mason Jones; his sister, Florence Lewis; and brothers, James, Nathaniel, Aaron, William, George, and LeAndrew Jones.

Visitation will be held at Yuma Mortuary on Thursday, February 26, 2009 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with service at Yuma Mortuary on Friday, February 27, 2009 at 10 a.m. Rev. P.L. Bradford will officiate.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kenny Jones, Rickey Kidd Jr., Christopher Kidd, Michael DeHorney II, Ronnie Morales, and Gregory Russell. Honorary pallbearers are Walker Harp, James Williams, P.L. Bradford, Gary Lett, Donald Nelson, Bo Robinson, Richard Wilson, William Stuart, Wayman Miller, Billy Wilson, and Modesto Perez.
