Harry D. Ross
ZANESVILLE: Harry D. Ross, 89, of Zanesville, died on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at his home.
He was born November 5, 1923, in Highland Township, Muskingum County, a son of the late Walter and Alice Mock Ross.
Harry worked in the construction trade; a 50 plus year member of the Brotherhood of Carpenters & Jointers. He was also a 40 plus year member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the U.S. Marine Corp Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars
and the American Legion. He was a decorated veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp in World War II
earning four Distinguished Flying Crosses, fifteen Air Medals, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Citation for service in the Atlantic & Pacific Theatres as an air crewman with Torpedo Bombing Squadrons. He served on Peleliu, Ulithi, Iwo Jima and Okinawa Islands in the Pacific Theatre.
Surviving are many nieces and nephews; many great nieces and great nephews; and special family members who he considered grandchildren, Joe (Todd Hensley) Matthews and April (David) Lovejoy, all of Zanesville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna R. Ross, whom he married March 30, 1946, and who died November 18, 2010; and a sister, Mary Helen Bratka.
No calling hours will be observed. A private graveside service will take place, and he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Anna at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville.
The Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, was entrusted with all arrangements.
