FRAZEYSBURG: Bruce G. Baird, 62, of Frazeysburg, Ohio, formerly of Athens, Ohio died Friday morning, July 8, 2011 at his home. Born September 5, 1948 in Athens he was the son of the late Pete and Betty (Nelson) Baird and was a 1966 graduate of Athens High School.

He retired in 2001 from Ohio University where he was a building service manager. Mr. Baird was a member of the Frazeysburg United Methodist Church, a former member of The Plains United Methodist Church and a member of the Ohio Archeology Society. He enjoyed collecting Indian artifacts and motorcycling. An avid football fan, he was very proud to have been a member of the 1965 Athens High School State Champion football team.

Surviving is his wife of 37 years, Anita M. (McKibben) Baird whom he married November 23, 1973; a son and daughter in-law Tim and Christina Baird of Athens; a daughter and son in-law, Martha and Jeff Giesse of New Hope, Pennsylvania; two granddaughters, Lilliana and Emerson Giesse; two sisters in-law and brothers in-law, Janet and the Rev. Tad Grover of Cincinnati, Ohio and Sandra and Jeff Nihiser of Kingsland, Georgia; and four nieces and nephews, Jessica and Tom Steinbrink, Ben Grover, Jenny and Dr. Owen Johnson and Brent Nihiser. In addition to his parents he was preceded death by his father in-law and mother in-law, Martin and Lois McKibben.

Calling hours will be 3 to 5pm Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil-Orr & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Calling hours will also be held from 11am to 1pm Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at Jagers and Son Funeral Home, 24 Morris Avenue, Athens, Ohio. Funeral services will be 1:00pm Tuesday, July 12, 2001 at Jagers and Son Funeral Home with Mr. Baird's brother in-law, the Rev. Tad Grover officiating. Burial will be in Athens County Memory Gardens.
