Effie M. Tom

NORWICH: Effie M. Tom, 85, of Norwich, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville.

She was born May 5, l927, in Byesville, a daughter of the late John T. and Beulah I. Butler Tucker. Effie worked at the Cambridge Glass following her graduation from high school. She retired as a secretary for Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative of New Concord. Effie was a long time member of the New Concord United Methodist Church and was a member and past Worthy Matron of the Laura Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star of Norwich.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard A. (Dick) Tom whom she married May 3, 1952 and he passed away March 17, 2012; a daughter, Jan Marie Tom Brock; brothers, Fred, Charles, Myron, and John R. Tucker; and sisters Edith Shipula and Becky Neff.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Sue Tom Kane, San Diego, Calif.; son-in-law, James Brock, Sun Valley, Calif.; sisters, Patricia Imm, Cambridge, and Marjorie (Gale) Ruby, Byesville; brothers, Ralph (Margaret) Tucker, Cambridge, Walter Tucker, Byesville, and Clarence (Karen) Tucker, Gallipolis; granddaughters, Erin Brock Treanor, Danielle Kane, Jessica Kane Allner, Laura Brock Holmes, and Kristin Kane; great-grandchldren, Isabelle Allner, Nathaniel Allner, Alexandra Allner, Ryen Treanor, Brody Treanor, Liam Holmes, and Olin Kane Palloadino; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday, October 7, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Mock-Miller Funeral Home, 63 West Main Street, New Concord. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, October 8, at the New Concord United Methodist Church, 20 East High Street, New Concord, with Rev. Karen Graham officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemtery, Byesville
