Howard Ronald Simon

CAMBRIDGE: Howard Ronald Simon, 74, of Cambridge, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday (July 3, 2013). He was born September 28, 1938 in Martins Ferry, son of the late Frank Simon and Opal V. (Dietch) Simon.

Mr. Simon was the owner and operator of Simon's Plant Gardens. He was a construction worker for 13 years and had worked at Kennedy's Bakery from 1956 to 1958. He had also worked at several other places throughout his lifetime.

He was a member of Feed the Children, International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, Life Outreach Missions, and was a 700 Club supporter. He was Baptist by faith and loved to tell others about Jesus. Mr. Simon was a US Army veteran, having served in Germany from 1960-1962.

He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially of the late Dale Earnhardt. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons and was also a trapper. His other favorite pastimes include hunting ginseng, gardening, selling produce, and fixing old cars and trucks.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers; his maternal and paternal grandparents; and several other relatives.

He is survived by his wife, Cheryl (Harris) Simon of the home, whom he married March 27, 1982; four sons, John ( Karrie) Simon of Byesville, James Simon of Cambridge, Timothy Simon of Byesville, and Stephen Simon of Cambridge; three daughters, Sherry ( Rob) Georgi of Omaha NE, Sheila Ann (Jerome) Kelley of Columbus, and Roni Elaine Simon of Cambridge; three brothers, Forrest (Patty) Simon of Zanesville, Alex K. Simon of Norwich, and Joe (Martha) Simon of Zanesville; four sisters, Nancie Passarelli of Lincoln RI, June (Clifford) Dilley of Coraopolis PA, Sharon (Paul) Nunley of Zanesville, and Karen McDonald of Zanesville; seven grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his brothers and sisters in Christ.

Family and friends may call on Sunday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Thorn-Black Funeral Home, Cambridge, where funeral services will be held on Monday (July 8, 2013) at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gary Roth officiating. Burial will be at Northwood Cemetery, Cambridge, with military honors conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
