NEW LEXINGTON: John Leland "Jack" Howerth, 73, of New Lexington, Ohio died at 10:20pm on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Autumn Healthcare of Somerset.
Born December 8, 1938 in New Lexington, Ohio to the late John Franklin and Margaret Elizabeth Rambo Howerth.
Jack served in the United States Navy; retired from Ohio Bell; was a member of the Covenant Community Church of New Lexington and John Tague Post #188, American Legion of New Lexington; he also served as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 212.
He was an avid bowler, horseshoe pitcher, loved woodworking and following the sport and other activities of his children and grandchildren. He was always ready to help others.
Survived by his wife of 54 years, Janet Saxton Howerth of the home; children, Charles (Cindy) Howerth of Athens and Jackie (Greg) Forquer of Amanda; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Christopher Howerth of Athens; two sisters, Ruth (Jerry) Walton of New Lexington and Peg Sampson of New Lexington.
In addition to his parents, preceded in death by brother, James Howerth.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4pm & 6-8pm on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 and from 10am to 11am on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Sanford Short officiating.
Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery with graveside military services by John Tague Post #188, American Legion of New Lexington.
