ZANESVILLE: Lawrence W. "Larry" Gibson, 77 of Zanesville, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Kindred Health Care in Newark following a brief illness due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease.
He was born Sunday, December 15, 1935 in Zanesville, the son of Ernest Gibson and Helen (Miller) Gibson.
He married Virginia R. (Harper) Gibson on Friday, February 14, 1958 and was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
Larry served his country as a veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Larry retired from McGraw Edison following many years of service; worked for Ross IGA and was a Member of the Zanesville Jaycees. He enjoyed working, painting, baseball and was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes. Larry loved the time he spent with his family and his dog Maggie and was a caring and adoring husband, father and grandfather. One of his greatest joys was his grandchildren.
Larry is survived by three children, Tracey (Rick) Blevins, Teresa (Smiley) Bennett and Tad (Angie) Gibson; eight grandchildren, Brittany and Steele Matthews, Nathan Blevins, Regan, MacKenzie and Hallie Bennett, Brady and Kelli Gibson; one brother, Richard (Joyce) Gibson of Newark; several nieces and nephews; and Maggie.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Gibson who died Wednesday, April 22, 2009; one grandson, Hayden Bennett; and several brothers and sister.
Friends may call from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, November 25, 2013 at The Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday. Burial will follow in Zanesville Memorial Park with VFW Post 1058 conducting Full Military Honors.
