Mary C. Rittberger
ZANESVILLE: Mary Christina Rittberger, 91, of Zanesville, died at 7:35 P.M. Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. She was born March 22, 1921, in Zanesville, a daughter of the late Charles W. Sr. and Ruth Catherine Willey Frick. She retired as a rural mail carrier from the U.S. Postal Service after over 20 years, and was a lifetime member of Immanuel United Church of Christ. She loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother. "Grandma Toot" as she was called by all who knew her, enjoyed all of the grandchildren who learned to swim in her pool, and it was the center of entertaining.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Lou (Fritz) Frueh of Nashport; a son Walter William (Linda) Rittberger of West Palm Beach, FL; five grandchildren, Christina (Col. Adam) Holmes of Aledo, TX, Dieter (Charlene) Frueh of Nashport, Franz Frueh of Zanesville, Dr. Andrea (John) Collet of Newark, and Carrie (Kevin) Tullos of Odenton, MD; thirteen great grandchildren, Caroline, Hansel, Elise, Claudia, Jakob, Aaron, Derek, Rainer, Axel, Annika, Lydia, Connor, and Cody; four nieces and nephews who looked to her as their grandmother, Kelly (Brad) Wolfe, Kathleen (Jay) Johnson, K.C. (Mari) Frick, and Kirk (Davida) Frick; a sister Ebbie Flowers of Zanesville; a brother John (Charlotte) Frick of Chandlersville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years Walter A. Rittberger, whom she married June 29, 1939, and who died February 14, 2001; four brothers, Charles Jr., Frank, Robert, and Richard Frick; and a sister Nellie Wilson.
Friends and family may call from 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, with Rev. Mark Matzke officiating. She will be laid to rest next to her husband, Walter, at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter Society: 1430 Newark Road, Zanesville, Ohio 43701; or to Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church: 128 South 7th Street, Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
