ZANESVILLE: Robert W. Arter, age 93 of Zanesville, died 3:07PM Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice in Zanesville.
He was born Friday, February 18, 1921 in Zanesville, a son of Charles Edwin Arter and Fannie Mabel Janney Arter. He was married on Friday, January 23, 1942 to Madalene A. (McCann) Arter. He was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church. Bob was born in the Adamsville area attending school there and graduated in 1939. He moved to Zanesville in 1940 with a brief stay in Chillicothe. He was employed in Zanesville with the Line Material and McGraw Edison Company for 30 years and then for 19 years he worked for the U.S. Postal Service. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Madalene McCann, she was a freshman and he was a sophomore when they first met in the 1935-1936 school year. They were married for 68 years. She passed away January 5, 2010 at the age of 88. They were members of the Presbyterian faith for over 50 years.
He is survived by one son, Loren R. (Linda) Arter of Springboro; two daughters, Linda E. (Robert) Sowers of Zanesville and Lynnette K. (Daniel) Leckrone of Lewisville; five grandchildren, Shannon (Amy Trager) Sowers, Erin (Tim) Dunn, Kevin (Aimee) Sowers, Hillary (Rodney) Nethers and Hayley (Chad) Hornbeck; five great grandchildren, Taylor Sowers, Madeline Dunn, Mason Dunn, Kaleb Sowers, Lincoln Nethers, Kase Hornbeck and Aidan Trager.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by four sisters, Ruth Gadd, Grace Kemery, Treasure Kreis and Virginia Ann Koseff,
Friends may call from 11 AM to 1 PM on Friday March 14, 2014 at the Hillis Combs & Nestor Funeral Home 935 Forest Ave, Zanesville. A Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM on Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. James Schumacher officiating. Burial will conclude in the Zanesville Memorial Park Zanesville OH.
