HOPEWELL: Dorothy Eilene Decker, 87 of Hopewell, died 4:20 AM Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Genesis Morrison House Hospice following a brief illness.
She was born Wednesday, January 5, 1927 in Zanesville, the daughter of Arthur A. Slonaker, Sr. and Anna L. (Colcher) Slonaker.
She married Samuel Floyd "Sam" Decker on Wednesday, October 30, 1946 and was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Dorothy was a homemaker who raised six children. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cared greatly for family. She enjoyed crocheting and was a Life Member of the DAV Auxiliary.
Dorothy is survived by six daughters, Linda Kay Porter and John Crawford of Hopewell, Michele Elaine and Dan Crawford of Arlington, TX, Rebecca Jean Glass and Dave Weaver of Nashport, Terry Lea and Tim Slack of Zanesville, Tina Marie and Mike Simon of Hillard and Laura Ann and Dan Fry of Reynoldsburg; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Sam Decker who died March 30, 2000; three sisters, Margaret Slonaker, Norma Hayman and Florence Agin; and two brothers, Kenneth and Arthur Slonaker, Jr.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at The Hillis, Combs & Nestor Funeral Home, 935 Forest Avenue, Zanesville, and one hour prior to service from 10:00 till 11:00 AM. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 Wednesday, at the funeral home with Fr. Martin J. Ralko officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband: Sam in Memorial Park Cemetery.
